Shortly after his admission as an attorney in 1995, Jaco joined
Tonkin Clacey Inc. as a novice conveyancer to pursue his interest in property
law. He was admitted as a conveyancer and notary in 1996. Not only did he
attain his professional skills from the ground up, but his intimate exposure
through the years to every level of our firm served as invaluable preparation
for his position as senior director, in which position he served for several years before his permanent relocation in March
2024 to Mossel Bay to head the firm’s new branch in the Garden Route.
He firmly believes that there is no substitute for personal,
hands-on experience. Passionate about leadership and management, Jaco completed
a Diploma in Business Management in 2000 from Damelin Management School, where
he received the Merit Award as the top student. Recognising the value of
alternative dispute resolution, Jaco is a Fellow of the Association of
Arbitrators and a trained mediator from the Society of Mediators, London,
through the Association of Arbitrators.
Experienced in residential and commercial property development and property
finance, property leases, conveyancing and notarial services Jaco is privileged to have contributed over many years to
numerous successful projects undertaken by the firm’s clients, from individuals to some of the
best-known property developers in Gauteng. Jaco advises residential bodies’ corporate, homeowners’ associations and their members on aspects of legal and corporate governance and served on several governing bodies as trustee, director and chairman.
He balances his professional and family life with his
passion for mountains, mountain biking, fly-fishing, off-road and adventure
motorcycles, nature and wildlife photography.
